Final Chupa Chup Campaign

It's been ages since I posted but I was just so busy at Uni! This is the completed final Chupa Chupa Campaign- the print campaign and the promotional material for sponsered Chupa Chup Club Nights. Our concept is that Chupa Chups are the new Zeitgeist. Smoking, drinking and drug taking are uncool and unclassy. Have a Sweet High instead!

Good ad!

I am totally against the gun use in America. It' something that really needs to change and this advert is so good as it shows how crazy the gun laws in America are. Why ban Little Red Riding Hood and not a gun?

Back at Uni

Started back at Uni on Monday and got my grade for my storybook.... A!
I'm so happy as I put so much work into it. I'm glad Jo liked it and she personally complemented me on Tuesday!

We had a different tutor for CTS on Tuesday. He's great! He's given us a long list of reading for our essays, and as you know I am a massive geek so can't wait to get stuck into that. I've already ordered three books from Amazon!

Our chosen campaign for the Pitch brief is Chupa chups by BBH. Last week I sent a box to Singapore (the agency that creates the campaign) and today I got a reply! They want to take part in a skype conference when we pitch! To even hear back from them is amazing. Today has been a good week!

It's finished!

I finished the book today. It's been sewn together, which was actually easier than I expected and I've mande the front cover out of mountboard covered in velvet. I'm really happy with the way it looks and proud of what I've made. I hope it shows my tutors my skills and I hope the effort and work I've put into it shows.

Painting begins

As soon as I got home Friday night I started painting and I'm really pleased with what I 've done. Four day of solid painting and my fineliner is well and truly dead but its done. Some of the pages could have been better if id had more time, but overall I'm happy with the way it looks. It will probably look better when it's all come together and bound. Will be seeing Sam on Wednesday so he can show me how to do it then.

Second time lucky

Been in to Uni today to re print my book. On Tuesday I found A3 cartridge paper at only 15p a sheet so just bought 5 of those and cost me next to nothing. Its thinner than the other paper but still suitable for painting on. I thought the printing aspect of today would be fine as me and Steve managed to do it only a couple of weeks ago. Of course, nothing ever goes simply with me. We couldn't work out how we had printed it and between us we probably killed a couple of trees with the amount of paper we printed out. After fiddling with the printer settings of Indesign for about three quarters of an hour I finally managed to print the damn thing. And... I printed it perfect bound, the way I had orignally wanted to print it, as opposed to a booklet! Don't ask me how I did it, I still don't know myself. The ink smudged a little onto the paper but no where near as much as it did before- its perfectly legible and looks so much better. I'm so glad I decided to reprint it. It was worth the time, effort and train fare into London.

Rethink

So over the weekend I was looking at my book and I'm not happy with it. I tried to convince myself that the smudging was ok, and on some pages it is. However on other pages the writing is illegible. I'm not going to hand in something shoddy so I've decided to re-print it. I'm going to have a look in the shop tomorrow for some thinner paper.

It's printed!.

Saw Steve today and he was so helpful. It took us ages to print the book, indesign was such a pain in my foot. I originally wanted to print the book perfect bound like this...

Unluckily we couldn't get it to do this, so ended up saving the file as a PDF and printing it as a booklet...

Still, at least it's printed now. Because the paper was quite thick it did end up smudging slightly, but it adds an effect to the paper in a way. Now I can start painting it....

So as you know before I can't print my book at home so I'm going to print it at Uni. There's a guy called Steve Cole doing inductions in the Adobe software so hopefully he'll be able to help me. Going to go to see him on Friday the 22nd so until then will be keeping myself busy with  the drawings for the book as well as the group pitch project which is becoming a dilema in itself. Getting close to the end of term now, less than a month away, so starting to panic.

Bit of an issue

So. I bought the paper today from the Uni shop. It's called somerset satina and cost me a whole £8 (10 sheets at 80p each). I took it to my boyfriend's as he said he'd help me print it. Unfortunatley his printer isn't double sided and the whole thing became a bit complicated for the both of us, so I'll have to try printing it at Uni....

Finished!!... well finished writing the story

After two weeks of development, I've finally finished the story. I've written it on In design and the layout is all set up. Its 36 pages on Indesign which is perfect as I'm going to print 4 pages per A4 sheet and therefore I'll need 9 sheets of paper. The end of the story simply reads 'your future begins today' with the rest of the page blank. My plan is to rip the page so that only that line is visible, as if the end of the story has been ripped out- its up to me to write the end of my story. So now the technical bit is done its just the practical bit left....

The verdict

I had my tutorial with Jo today and she loved my idea! I'm so happy because it means I can do something that I really feel passionate about. Here's the first few pages...

Once upon a time there was the Kingdom of Adtovia. It was a beautiful place full of creativity and invention.People travelled for miles to seek refuge within it’s walls as it was one of only a few sources of light in a World of darkness and evil. It was ruled by the King and his
beautiful Queen. On the night of the crescent moon the Queen had a baby. A girl, who they called Princess Amelia.

The people of Adtovia were overjoyed, however far away in the shadows the dark creatures were plotting. They had heard a prophecy that said a child would be born under the crescent moon and bring new light to their World of dark.

In the dead of night they crept over the walls of Adtovia and stole the sleeping princess.

They brought her back to shadows and
enslaved her in a tower guarded by a monstrous three- headed dragon. Forced to work during the night and hidden away by day, she was never to see the light of sun.

And so the Princess grew up not knowing who she really was. She had only one friend, a fairy called Elvina, who would tell her all about the beautiful world outside her prison. In the tower in which she lived there was only one crack of light.
“One day” she said as she touched the crack in the wall “I’ll see the World for myself”

Mood board

I've got a tutorial with Jo on Tuesday next week so I've put together a mood board of my practice drawings, images from the internet, materials I may use as well as my mock first page so I can show her in a visual way. I'm really hoping she gives me the go ahead for it because then I can start writing it properly

Beginning the story

I've started writing the story and thinking about imagery for the book. This is a mock up of the first page I created on Photoshop. I'm quite pleased with it, hopefully I can keep the standard of writing up for the whole book

Drawing practice

These are some practice paintings I made. They are painted in water colour and the details have been drawn in with fine liner. I'm really happy with what I've done. I hope my standard of drawing continues...
